To celebrate Irish Walled Towns Day and National Heritage Week , the Old Drogheda Society will hold a Free Guided Tour of Historic Drogheda on Sunday next , August 26th at 3pm.
The tour will start at the Tony Byrne Sculpture at South Quay , near Scotch Hall and will be led by well known local historian Deirdre Russell . The tour will include a visit to St Peter's Church of Ireland , which will be specially opened for the occasion by Rev Michael Graham and the grounds of Magdalen Tower which will also be opened specially .Part of the old town walls will be viewed at Featherbed Lane near St Laurence Gate .
In conjunction with Irish Town Walls Day there will be a photographic competition with €500 in prizes and the tour will be an ideal opportunity for those wishing to enter this competition .
The objective of the competition is to select a photograph, which best captures this impression in our Walled Town. Entries will be divided into two categories:
John Boyle O'Reilly Summer School
This year's John Boyle O'Reilly School , hosted by The Old Drogheda Society , will take place on Sunday September 9th in the Boyne Valley Hotel , Drogheda .This year's theme is " The Flight of the Earls" .
This years speakers will be Dr John McGurk , Dr Patrick Fitzgerald and John McCavitt .

3.30pm The Life and Times of John Boyle O'Reilly
